One thing that intrigues me is exploring the limitations of a character's ability. Some seem to be permanent, while others are more mutable over time. Mainstream tends to prefer static chararacters; I prefer dynamic ones. I'm also not a big fan of momentary breakthroughs outside the category of traumatic manifestation. I lean toward showing how people develop their skills. So Pax started out with very useful but very limited ability, which only showed his wider potential under unusual circumstances, and now he's trying to figure out how he can expand that to make himself more versatile. It takes time. But it's an interesting trip.
