I can see Lawrence freaking out because people keep running behind him! He's probably got a healthy dollop of the "keep your back to the wall" paranoia because of the bullying. Stan putting him in a corner where that couldn't happen would help a lot. Sloane putting macaroni down his back would only exacerbate the problem.
Lawrence was grateful for the refuge of Stan's room, and the wide bed that smelled faintly of Stan.
This is excellent because of the scent cue, something many people don't think about. Did you see the finale of Babylon 5? Sheridan is gone, and Delenn curls up on the bed and buries her face in his pillow, grieving, because the pillow smells like him.
"He's really sweet, but he never lets it out," Susie piped. "Sugar's no use if you leave it in the dish."
Out of the mouths of babes! I wonder how he will react to that once he's had time to process things a little? Because he is sweet, under that prickly exterior, and Stan can see it too.
Lawrence trailed off, realizing that he always said fine whether he was or not, and maybe that was causing a problem here.
Yep. I caught that early on. "I'm fine" and "Good as ever" are his go-to responses, no matter whether they actually fit or not -- because he doesn't want to draw attention to himself. This is his Self-Knowledge kicking in, and that's a good thing.
I love the picture you found for Sloane! It really gets her sweet-but-impish nature across.
The obsession with S-names in Stan's family feels like living on Vulcan. :-)
