This is a standalone story inspired by Norse mythology about Loki and Odin, who were originally blood-brothers and/or lovers depending on which sources you consider. It's a plotty exploration of how Loki tries to right wrongs, in ways that never quite work out as intended, with a layer of kinky erotica wrapped around it. Some parts are silly and others are really intense. This story is being revealed in pieces based on audience participation.

"Brotherlove, Brotherlust" Part 3

Loki tried to settle back into life at Valhalla, but he could not help wondering about his children and what would happen to them. His wife Sigyn understood how Loki felt. She said to him, “My husband, you should go consult the Norns. They know everything. They can tell you of your children’s fate. They may even know how to stop the Aesir from picking on you all the time.”

“My wife, the Aesir would not treat me as an equal if the world-wheel itself shuddered out of its track,” said Loki, “but I shall visit the Norns anyway.”

So Loki went to the well of Wyrd where the three Norns sat studying the threads of fate. “I lay with the giantess Angrboda and sired three children, whom I love even though they frighten me. When Odin rescued me, he drove them all away. Now my heart cannot rest until I know their fate,” said Loki.

“We can give you that, but you must give us something in exchange,” said Urd.

“All right,” said Loki.

“What do you have? What are you good for?” said Verdandi.

“I have nothing,” said Loki, “and according to the Aesir, I am good for mischief-making, tale-bearing, and cock-sucking … in no particular order.”

“We can make do with that,” said Skuld. She leaned forward, touched the waters of Wyrd, and commanded Loki to look.

What he saw there made him stagger back in shock. Things had gotten much worse since last he saw his children. “My daughter Hel hides her face in the underworld. My son Fenris lies bound beneath the mockery of the gods. My son Jormungand writhes at the bottom of the ocean. How can I bear this?” Loki raged.

“Never mind that,” said Urd. “You only see the present moment. Look again, and learn your children’s fate.”

So Loki looked again. “I see my daughter Hel leading legions of cowardly dead to battle, burnt at last in Surt’s fire. I see my son Fenris killing my brotherlove Odin, and killed in turn by silent Vidar. I see my son Jormungand and quick-tempered Thor killing each other,” he said, then threw himself to the ground and wept. “Nothing could make matters worse than this.”

“I can think of a few things,” said Verdandi. “Besides, you still owe us for answering your questions.”

“I wish I had never come here and asked,” said Loki.

“So do most people,” said Skuld.

“What must I do?” Loki said, the words catching in his throat.

“You must make a sacrifice greater than that of Tyr, greater even than that of Odin,” said Urd.

“I don’t understand,” said Loki.

“Do troublesome dreams attack you in the night, binding your slumber-heavy limbs with the sheets of your own bed?” said Verdandi.

Loki hung his head. “Yes,” he admitted. “I dream that all this has happened before, and will happen again, forever. I dream that not even I, the bringer of changes, can do anything to stop it.”

“You can stop it, but first you must prepare the way,” said Skuld. Then she told him of the tiny changes that would pave the way for the greater changes, and of the terrible things he must do to sow hope for the future.

“Aiee! Now I feel even worse than before!” cried Loki. “I must go find my brotherlove Odin and take comfort in his arms.”

“No! Tell no one what we have told you, not even the Wisdom-Walker himself. That would destroy any chance we have,” said Skuld.

“If I do not tell him, then he will hate me. Everyone will hate me,” Loki protested.

“Nevertheless, do as we say. You must trust the love of his heart, the lust of his loins, and the blood that you share to keep you safe,” said Skuld. “Promise me!”

So Loki promised, and for once, did not twist his words as he did so; for after all, he had come to the Norns for help.

Loki’s life grew no easier. In particular, Thor’s wife mocked him for cheating on Sigyn with the giantess Angrboda.

“Where does Loki lay his head at night?” teased Sif, tossing her tawny mane. “He is too drunk to find his own bed and too careless to know his own wife! Poor Sigyn barely remembers what he looks like, she hasn’t seen him in so long.”

“Where does Sif lay her head tonight, I should wonder!” Loki shot back. “For Thor travels east over mountains, and has taken his staff with him.”

Sif only laughed, her voice ringing like golden bells from the walls of Valhalla. Loki wished that she would leave him in peace, but she did not. So he stirred trouble and talked behind her back. He broke into her closet, tried on her dresses, and bribed her maids to admire him over their mistress. Sif retaliated with ever more vicious criticism, but no one could match mad Loki when it came to mockery.

Then one day Loki caught Sif in a disadvantaged position. She lay in the long grass of the meadow, her skirts hiked up to her ears, and a milkmaid’s head clenched tightly between her thighs. A wicked grin spread over Loki’s face. “By Sleipnir’s silver fetlocks! Won’t Thor be fascinated to hear about this,” he said.

Sif bolted upright, thrusting the maid aside. She clutched her clothing around her fair white flesh. “Please don’t tell my husband,” she begged. “I will do anything you ask, if only you swear yourself to silence!”

Loki tapped a finger on his chin. “I suppose I could think of one or two favors you might exchange for that,” he said.

“Name them,” said Sif.

“First, I want to join you in your sport,” said Loki, “and second, I want you to quit pestering me about Angrboda. So long as you do that, I swear never to speak of your breaking faith to Thor.”

“Done,” said Sif. She lay back down in the grass and lifted her knees for him. Neither did the milkmaid begrudge her company. Loki flung off his clothes and took lengthy pleasure with them both. So the first part of his bargain was well and truly met.

But the second part lasted barely a week. Loki turned a corner one day to hear Sif snickering with Freya.

“I don’t know what that giantess saw in Loki – there isn’t much to see!” said Sif.

“Maybe she just got desperate,” said Freya.

Loki hid his outrage and said nothing. But that night he snuck into Sif’s bedchamber where she lay sleeping. He cut off her summer-long hair, the pride of her womanhood. It fell to the floor like reaped wheat. Now all of Asgard would know of her adultery – and clever Loki still had not breached the letter of his oath.

I thought Sif was supposed to be dark haired prior to, y'know, the incident?
