EDIT 12-2-15: The situation is fixed, they have a replacement car, and donations are no longer needed. Thank you all!
Doug's son Trevor has posted this update in his Facebook:
Thanks to the generosity of many wonderful people, we have received over $850 in donations so far, and we have been given a ride from Del Norte, Colorado to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Where we are now we can stay for free for a little while, so we are in a better position, but we are still without a vehicle of our own. We were able to ship some items home and sell off a few others, which has lightened our load, but we still have too much to take on a bus or train. Rental cars would eat up our funds just getting to the next large city, let alone home. Donations are still welcome, via PayPal.me/TrevorEdwards but at this point we could use some help locating a reliable, used car in the Albuquerque area. It needs to be able to transport us and all of our stuff safely. Which means no subcompacts and no pickup trucks without bed covers. If you know someone in the area with a vehicle that fits the criteria and is willing to sell for less than $1,000 please direct them here. Thank you.
dialecticdreamer has also updated the "Pay It Forward" crowdfunding project in support of this. Fills have been written to prompts, and fiction is currently being posted as a reward for linkbacks.
We would like to thank everyone who has helped in any way! The support has been wonderful. <3 you all.
