This poem came out of the July 7, 2015 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired and sponsored by

"(Dis)Embodiment"
Life is a scarlet robe
that encloses the spirit
in notions of mortality.
Each birth is a death
that cuts off the spirit
from what was before,
sewing it to the shadow
of what will become.
Each death is a birth
that releases the spirit
through the curtains
onto a new stage.
Beginning and ending
are all the same,
one thing destroyed
as another is created.
Which is really unmade --
the world or the observer?
It does not matter.
Embodiment and
disembodiment
are just stages.
Between them there is
only the dancing,
whether clad in robes
of leather or gossamer.
The beat remains the same.
