It's more complicated and expensive, but enormously more useful. Given that most humans are stupid, selfish, and shortsighted I suspect that they will go on hobbling some of their best tools until some disaster rolls in and kills a whole bunch of people who would've been fine if there had been power available. Like say, people with special needs dependent on electricity, or everyone if a storm is followed by extreme temperatures.
