While researching another piece, I came across a picture of a flat road and a mountain rising above it. That reminded me of how farmemory is like being an experienced traveler. From the plain, it looks like you can see a long way, but you can't see how the road you're on connects with the one around the mountain. Pass through the forest at the mountain's base, and once you reach the slopes, you can see MUCH farther -- how the mountain and the plain and road are all one, part of the same trip.
Farmemory is just recalling that you've made trips like this before, so when you see a road on the plain and a road on the mountain, you just figure those connect at the base of the mountain. And it's a pretty awesome trip, too. :D
