/Before/ the current unpleasantness, we'd get asked to help with setting up Uber accounts to get paychecks and obtaining useful items (bags, granny carts, bikes). Also it was usual to give people bus passes to get to the office for programs, as well as having occasional clothing/cookware/school stuff/toys giveaways. (Eventually most people would save up enough for cars, better housing, etc.)

I also made and scrounged free or inexpensive education stuff where I could. (We can print out homemade paper-and-ink workbooks for everyone, but we can't give everyone a $15 published book.)

In current times, I believe its mostly food boxes and maybe medical/cleaning supplies. Probably help with rent paperwork too, but that is not my skillset. I'll likely be more involved with helping to put together some digital programs/resources soon.

>>It likely varies across groups and perhaps individuals.<<

I think the person in question was from Pakistan or therabout, but I'm not sure of the exact religious denomination, though from our discussions it seemed to be closer to the attitude of 'nice and chill Satanist guy' than 'annoying preachy preacherdude.'

>>LOL<<

More hilarious in RL: I know I'm part Italian [1st gen g-grandparent] but I found out yesterday I have distant Irish ancestry via a different branch. Ha, irony!

>>So do intellectuals and other subcultures.<<

I get along well with fellow inellectuals, as well as people of a similar spiritual* disposition, people with similar personalities, and people with shared skills/interests/knowledge.

*Does not indicate the /same religion/, just similar outlook/values/philosophy. (Sometimes other Christians make my teeth itch! Grrr...)

Sometimes I suspect we'd end up looking like an example photo for the Odd Friendship trope.

I'm pretty sure they'd latch on to the local community, if there is one.

Actually, a friendly LGBTQIA+ community could snag /that entire group/ and network them so well they don't /need/ any extra help. (Especially in Terramagne.)

That's what kept happening with the Ukranians here - the local community was very active, so the newcomers didn't need us that much. My Russian books are in pristine condition, but Arabic, Burmese and Spanish are kinda scruffy.
