:D I didn't know this had a name! Awesome.
The community also has a link to a guide about datahoarding. It includes this quote:
If you type “data-hoarding definition” on Goolag™, you’ll be prompted with a somewhat negative definition, going as far as to qualify data-hoarding as a “mental disorder”, “compulsive behavior”:
In reality, data-hoarding is, in my own definition, the process of downloading and storing every single tidbits of internet media you like or come across, it is more of a value/principle and of a hobby.
Now, I agree with the hobby definition. It can also be a profession, as with archivists.
But a mental disorder? Are they not even bothering to check whether something is necessary to the survival of civilization and the species before declaring it a "problem" now? Because if it weren't for nerds hoarding data like hungry hamsters caching seeds, I guarantee you we would have neither. The jocks certainly weren't going to do it. The only reason we have more than crumbs of pre-Christian Europe (you know, the Greek and Roman stuff) is because Muslim nerds had some of it and it traveled back eventually. You're welcome, you judgmental fuckwits.
Yes ...
So what did I do? I lined my house with books, of course. That's my main hoard. :D I also archive data.
But yeah, this nonsense is going at the top of my list of reasons why I take everything the shrinks say with a 10-pound block of buck booster because a grain of salt is nowhere near enough to balance that much bullshit. 0_o
