Promising Crossovers

As a Gothic fantasy story set in contemporary times, Wednesday offers many opportunities for crossovers with other canons. Some crossovers are obvious due to congruent genres or motifs. However, you can cross any two or more canons that you like. Here I list some of the better matches to explore.

* Other paranormal canons. These rely on the common ground of mystical motifs and characters. Choices include 30 Days of Night, Alpha & Omega, Anita Blake Vampire Hunter, Blood Ties, Charmed, Good Omens, The Lost Boys, Mercy Thompson, The Mortal Instruments, Newford, Supernatural, True Blood, Werewolves Within, The X-Files, and Zaniel Havelock. While Once Upon a Time is fairytale rather than Gothic, it features many of the same character types and multiple crossovers.

* Other teen canons. These feature adolescent characters who face not only the usual puberty challenges but also dramatic additions such as a mystery or supernatural issues. Popular options include Beastly, Bit, Blood & Chocolate, Blue Bloods, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cloak & Dagger, Fallen, First Kill, Ginger Snaps, Nancy Drew, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Teen Wolf, The Vampire Diaries, Wolf Pack, and The Wolves of Mercy Falls.

* Other mystical schools. These take place in some sort of educational institution for exceptional students. Possibilities include Harry Potter, Hex, Legacies, The Magicians, The Medoran Chronicles, The Scholomance, Simon Snow, Sky High, Vampire Academy, X-Men: Evolution, and Zero Sight.

Because of the tone of dark whimsy, the crossover that immediately struck my mind while first watching was Netflix's adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Rather than Sabrina the Teenage Witch, I think The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina may be a better match tonally. I also think the recent Netflix adaptation of Lockwood & Co., focused on teen characters navigating a perilous supernatural world with less than reliable adult assistance, would make for promising crossover fodder.
