BALD EAGLES!

While I was helping with the grocery haul, I saw a soaring bird above the yard. We have turkey vultures in the area, so this is not uncommon. But then I saw the unmistakable head-and-tail lights of a bald eagle, the white feathers almost glowing in the bright winter sun. And a second one! :D 3q3q3q!!!

They were circling together, passing close to each other, likely part of a courtship display. Apparently they found my yard a romantic carpet over which to carouse. I am very flattered. It's at least the third time I've seen this species around my yard. This is the first time that I've seen more than one bald eagle in Illinois away from the Mississippi. I am especially excited by the prospect of a breeding pair here, rather than just individuals.

Lovely!

We have an occasional sighting in our parts as well. I've seen 2 or 3 over the years, but never a pair together.

Wow! Nice sighting!

I saw a red-shouldered hawk today, a first for me.

There have been nesting bald eagles up at Clinton Power Plant for years. One of your pair might have been born over there. Not too far away as an eagle flies.
