Here's an interesting metric: how much enjoyment is derived from each acre, rather than how much money.  It's a good thing to keep in mind if you want to build environment that are healthy instead of unhealthy for people to live in.  Particularly, keep an eye on how much greenspace you have.

There's some woodland for sale locally.

Just woodland- no development permitted.

Have to admit that we're tempted by the idea of being able to own and therefore protect a few acres of ancient native woodland. :o)

If it's old growth, it's precious. If it's even mature second growth, it's very valuable.

Land doesn't have to be developed to be useful. It can be a wildlife refuge. Depending on local parameters, it might also be used for hiking, creative inspiration, hunting and gathering, etc.
