Lava rocks with flowers in them.  Because Pele loves rock gardening.  Sure, why not.

Soil that contains worn-down lava rocks is especially fertile. Freshly solidified rock is a marvelous source of all sorts of minerals that plants love - all the plant has to do is figure out how to grow in solid rock :-)

According to the information there, the earlier trees grew in spirals like the wood in the center of this picture to evenly make use of the water and nutrients they could get. (Same photo walk, just one of the images that didn't make the cut for the gallery)

Figures, Pele is a gardener..and what gardener doesn't basically nuke an area prior to replanting? She just gardens on a geological time scale!
