Poem: "Only in the Gift"

In return for a beautiful day and a truly stellar performance from the Sun God and Moon Goddess, I am posting one of my eclipse poems for free.  You can see some of my eclipse photos here.


"Only in the Gift"

I have seen the moon-shielded sun
and the Father God winking
as he turns his one wide eye
back toward the waiting world 

a reminder that we live,
moment by moment, 
only in the gift of
his infinite light.

So mote THAT shit.

The one big thing I noticed (we only got about 95% coverage, so nothing visibly dramatic happened) was that my black mesh motorcycle jacket, which normally gets quite warm in the midday sun when I'm not moving... *didn't*.

On previous occasions, I have observed night birds calling in an eclipse, but not this time.

There's a fairly big woods off the corner of the property; any absence of light is compounded by the shade...

That makes sense. We watched this one from a ballfield, which was mostly sunny, although we could see woods in the distance. I have watched previous eclipses from a shadier yard.
