Thursday Yardening

Today is a little warm but workable, and sunny.  We got rain last night!  \o/

I threw down some leftover grass seed along the strip where Doug mowed excess raspberries by the fence in the ritual meadow.

Also I discovered that a bird nest at eye level in one of Home Base's lower branches now has two fat baby robins in it.  :D  I hadn't seen them before because it's mostly covered with leaves.  Same with a nest I found yesterday in the hazelnut bush that has two speckled eggs in it.

EDIT 6/15/17: I went back out and finished trimming around the septic garden.

EDIT 6/15/17: I trimmed grass around the firepit.

Your property sounds like how our house was for nesting birds! :D You need finches now, and you'll have our usual trifecta of songbirds... hmm, must research if finch eggies are speckled.

Awwww finches are love! Kind of biased, here. :) House finches, especially, are <3. And oooooh friendly singing wrens!

Awww, the little robins <3

And thank goodness for rain! I'm hoping for some around here. It's been entirely too warm.

We've found a piece of robin's egg in the front yard twice, several weeks apart. I'm speculating that they've had two nests in the water oak this year. Right outside the computer room window is a large forsythia bush. Ze spouse keeps it leveled off, & it's gotten dense. The other day, I saw a male cardinal poking his head out of the middle of it--the cutest thing ever!. I like knowing some of the neighbors are nesting around; it's more sociable. We also get lots of mockingbirds. They nested in the big snowball bush near the mailbox one year; it's been known as the mockingbush ever after.
