Langston Hughes

Here's a thoughtful post about one of my favorite poets, Langston Hughes.

Langston Hughes is one of my all-time favourite poets. My seventh grade English teacher (the only PoC I ever had teach one of my junior or senior high classes) introduced me to him and I will love her forever for it (and because she was amaaaaaazing). Dudley Randall is also fantastic - if you haven't read it, you should at least check out his "A Poet Is Not a Jukebox".

I remember having to do an assignment on a poet of our choice in ninth grade English and I was so disappointed that my English teacher that year didn't know who Langston Hughes was. She didn't want to let me use him because she'd never heard of him and I was so mad. She eventually said yes, but if she hadn't I would have taken it to the Junior high principal and then to the Senior high/overall principal if I'd had to.

"Hold fast to dreams" is one of my favorites by him.
