Fireworks

Tonight we did our home fireworks show. :D These are the things we bought from JT Fireworks Sales in Charleston...

Novelties

Artificial Satellite -- This is a small plastic propeller with a firecracker underneath. It produces a pinwheel of orange sparks and flies into the air. This one didn't go as high as last year, only about 5-6 feet up, but it was still fun to watch. Light it at dusk so you can see both the light show and the flight action, with a chance of spotting where it lands. Not very noisy. A recent favorite and well worth buying a few if you see them. Highly recommended.

Miracle Tank -- This is a tank that is supposed to roll and shoot things. It barely moved and fired from an unexpected angle. Much like the American government at present. Typical firecracker snapping sounds, not much louder than the propeller. Not recommended.

#14 Morning Glory Sparklers (pack of 6) -- Very hard to light. Once lit, they burn red, then green, then a long shower of gold sparks. Nice display for a higher-end sparkler. Not very noisy. Recommended as dragon chow, we'll be tossing the last four into our firepit for Drake to enjoy, I'm sure he'll have no trouble lighting them.

B3 Bomber with Report (pack of 2) -- The first one flew quite high, spinning with multicolored balls. The second one didn't fly at all. (Novelties are flimsy and notorious for minor failures, so it's best to get several of each if you can. Ya pays ya money, ya takes ya chances.) The reports are not much louder than a typical firecracker. Recommended.

Hen Laying Eggs -- Among the easiest to use with a lot of bang for your buck. Shoots small multicolored balls and sparks out the hen's butt. :D Not very noisy. An old favorite that I grab whenever I see it. Highly recommended.

We also had a couple of ground blossoms left over from a previous occasion. One lit and the other didn't. When these work, they're splendid little things, spinning around with a clear whizzing sound as they throw off sparks and colored balls. Other times they just kinda lie there. It's another that's worth grabbing when I see it. Recommended.

Small

3 Min -- A 6-shot repeater with a triangular shape. Six fountains, most of them burning either red or green at the base, with a shower of gold sparks, then snapping sparkle explosions with little balls. Most had balls of red and green but one had purple. One was all crackling explosions. It's loud as firecrackers and fountains go, but nowhere near as loud as regular fireworks. This is a real joy for you fellow fountain fans. Most highly recommended.

Colorful Skies -- A 25-shot repeater with a square shape. The shots go off quite rapidly, some rising balls on a streak of fire, some aerial starbursts. I didn't notice the unusual colors touted on the label, but it was still a very pretty display. It's a bit loud for regular fireworks, but not as loud as the flash-bangs. This is a good finale for a home show if you're on a budget. Recommended.

Medium

Guns and Spurs -- A 128-shot repeater with a rectangular shape, this is the large end of the medium category before you get into the big expensive boxes. It goes fast, though. The first phase shoots balls trailing orange sparks, the second has rising starbursts, and there's a triple burst of larger stars at the end. It's a bit loud for regular fireworks, but not quite as loud as the Colorful Skies earlier. My one complaint is the short fuse, less than an inch. Come on guys, fuse is cheap, this is no place to be stingy. On the whole, this was a really fun repeater. After it went out, and I was pouring water over it, I could see the rows of small tubes in front, medium in the middle, and the big three fanned out at back. This is an excellent finale for a home show if you have a bit more money to spend. Highly recommended.

We had a great little show this year, and I really enjoyed it. \o/
