Darrow Poems 12-15-24

end of autumn,
beginning of winter,
snow caught in
the last asters
like purple cups

* * *
the creek is dry and silent
but the tumbled stones
hold the memory of water

* * *
the ice lanterns are
lit for winter solstice

if you touch them
they feel cold and wet

but inside
is the fire

* * *
dry stems point
the way down
to tasty roots

* * *
gathering seeds in fall,
tucking them in a bag,
thinking ahead to spring

* * *
along the horizon,
sheets of silver mist
under the sunset's
silken slipper

* * *
a faint frosting of snow
fallen over the high ground

footprints across a bridge
the only sign of life

* * *
the smell of food
warms the winter wind

stomach starts to grumble
