the sky a spill of
orange paint above
the black horizon

in winter,
introspection

the bones
of the world
laid bare

and self

* * *

frost feathers
as if the geese had
pressed their feathers
into the winter air

and left these behind

* * *
above the river
jewels of ice on twigs
where they touched the water

* * *
a single leaf
left on a shelf
curled and perfect
