 ... can now be sold as ground beef.  So while the government is running around trying to convince people it cares about their health and safety, no it does not.  It cares about power and money.

As the quality of the commercial food supply continues to degrade, consumers will once again have to scramble for new, expensive labels in order to identify actual food.  Or buy from a reputable butcher who doesn't adulterate the ground beef with questionable "government-approved" additives and fillers.  This is a good reason to look for a farmer's market or CSA that offers meat.

Alternatively, buy a meat grinder and insert actual hunks of dead animal into it.  Then you will know exactly what you are getting, and more importantly nowadays, NOT getting.

and trump and his cronies want to drag the UK food standards down to their level as part of a Trade deal with us. Needless to say, no-one this side of the pond is keen on that.

Probably because Chinese manufacturers regularly violate their own slight standards, and Chinese officials pocket a fair amount to turn a blind eye to this.

He wants a slice of that action I bet..

Nah, it's just another quid pro quo...they want something from him, they gotta treat him right, say nice things about him. You know, like State Governors have to if they want their emergency aid and whatever ventilators he thinks they need.

I wish we had a standalone butcher, I'm sure that once upon a time Alamogorodo did. Hell, the mega-Walmart doesn't even have a butcher counter, just a meat case. I assume the neighborhood Walmart is the same. At least the Lowe's and Albertson's have butchers counters.

If you have a butcher, at least you can talk to them about what's in the meat. Some places grind their own, at least certain versions, and those are less likely to have objectionable additives than things packed and shipped from a factory.
