Cook with dried beans.  They are much cheaper than canned beans and they store well.  Some beans are flavorful on their own, but the blander ones will adopt pretty much whatever you put in them -- ham, tomato, spices, etc.

Canned beans are preferable for emergency stockpiles where youexpect limited access to water. I think they are also faster to cook, if you want to sacrifice $ for speed.

Each has its pros and cons. Stocking both is desirable if you can.

I wish we had more freezer space so that I could cook a giant bag of different beans and freeze them for further use. But since we only have a small freezer and it's already full...
