Poem: "The Things Heroes Say"

This is today's freebie. It was inspired by a prompt from my_partner_doug. It also fills the "vent" square in my 2-28-19 Words and Phrases card for the Meet Ugly Bingo fest.  This poem belongs to the series Polychrome Heroics.


"The Things Heroes Say"


There are things heroes say
to comfort themselves when
the going gets tough.

"They don't call SPOON
for the simple jobs."

"If it were easy, then
everyone would be doing it."

"I'm not personally responsible for
saving the world in the next 24 hours,
nobody is currently trying to assassinate me,
and if this building catches fire, there is
an entire atmosphere of breathable air
into which we can flee."

"Thank goodness they don't
work in air traffic control."

And when someone suggests
bowing out, there is always:

"When I see who they're hiring
to do so, I'm glad it's actually
our job to save the world!"

The Things Villains Say.

There are things Villains say
to comfort themselves when
the going gets tough… or the tough get going.

“Could be worse, we
could be working for a living.”

“If easy money was that easy,
then everyone would be doing it.”

“I’m not personally responsible for
saving anything or anyone, but it’s a nice bonus.
Nobody is currently trying to assassinate me yet,
and when the building catches fire, there is
an entire atmosphere of breathable air
into which we can flee.”

“Thank goodness they don’t
work in air traffic control!”

and when someone suggests
a change of cape, there is always:

“When I see the actual state of
things, I’m glad it’s actually
their job to save the world,
and NOT ours.”

I like both of these! XD

Gray Capes

Things gray-capes say:

“Of course I don’t agree with everyone’s actions,
or their politics,
or their beliefs,
no matter how tightly they clutch to them!
That is totally beside the point!"

“But, it’s my job to help where I can, as a
healer,
teleporter,
counselor,
or as a private citizen.”

“Don’t expect me to take sides,
and there is no way that I’ll be the
staked goat
for your trap.”

“I don’t help them -whatever the cape color-
to make them other than they are.
I help because I can’t sit by and watch,
and by helping, I am making the world better.”

“Actually… I do work in air traffic control.”

“I’m not personally responsible for saving the world
In the next twenty-four hours,
nobody is currently trying to assassinate me,
except in an MMORPG,
and if this building catches fire,
there is an entire breathable atmosphere
into which you can flee."

"Me, I’m grabbing a fire extinguisher and a flashlight,
to help with the evacuation.

Because that IS saving the word."

My SlytherClaw Teen as a trainee pilot would *definitely* say air traffic controllers are doing a tough job for great reasons. <3

I remember when *everything* except military planes were grounded after 9/11/01. We were close enough to Air Force bases.
