Bust of Lincoln Destroyed
So this happened.
The same principle behind this leads to this and this.
I told you so. I have been saying and saying that when a society starts pulling down statues, it tends to mushroom, because people get it in their heads they can destroy all the art they dislike. Sure it's tempting. Everybody loves to pull down something they hate and stomp on it. That's very gratifying. But it's a bad idea because it destroys the past and then nobody has nice things for a long time. It also sucks when other people pull down stuff that YOU like just because THEY don't, and there is probably not one piece of art on the planet which is liked by everyone.
Seriously, people, stop doing this shit. Unpopular art can be moved to a place where it won't annoy folks, but destroying it is counter-civilization.

I just...*sighs* I'm starting to be able to feel things I couldn't before magic work, and the unrest makes me want to cry, though it took me a minute to figure out tha that's what this vague sense of foreboding was. *sighs*

One, it's the worst kind of bad karma to force magick on someone who doesn't want it. That shit can get you a whole lot worse than dead. So that leaves out a LOT of them.
Two. There are a lot of people who will mouth support for these asshats, and a WHOLE lot who will sit by either silently supporting, apathetic, or just plain ignorant. But I suspect that there aren't really a whole helluva lot of Actual Nazis in the larger scheme of things. I mean, that shithead what beat up Deandre Harris was all the way from May-Retta, Corn-Cobb County, Georgia. That's two whole states away they had to bus people to get up a decent sized fight.
So my calculus is this: If enough of the torch suckers either end up in the greybar or in a body bag (and yeah, you threaten my wife and kids and `ohana, I'm not too damn picky about how you end up, that's LIFE when you're dealing with Mama Bear) that's simultaneously a real good example pour encourager les autres... without *really* taking out that big a chunk of the populace.
Now. Would we, if we could get away with showing ourselves, like to take volunteers, with the explicit caveat that if you're trying to be a mole or otherwise set us up, you're gonna wish you weren't born? Yeah, I think so. But honestly I think the best way to get a change of heart is to have an explicitly neutral, explicitly all-marginal medical crew that comes in and *saves* some of these jokers. The uniform is double armbands. Red cross or red crescent or red pentacle or whatever, along with rainbows, other pride stripes, cultural heritage banners, etc. Every last one of'em got "cooties" of some sort that'll make a Nazi recoil, AND every last one of'em dedicated to saving the world one life at a time.
These are my ideas. you can't have them. ;)
Thoughts
Some can, if they so choose. It is neither right nor easy to drag people off their chosen path, although if they're a threat to others, there are plenty of ways to stop them. Remember that for every die-hard zealot, a lot of them are just in it for the free beer (no joke, that's how Hitler started it) or the company or some other practical need that could be better met elsewhere. It is sometimes possible to entice them away. *snicker* I may even have hooked a few with black and Hispanic poets, I got some nibbles.
>> Maybe if we heal one, they mighta turn around and heal one of their own...do yolu realize what that would do? Exponentially over time? <<
In that regard, it is much like tending alcoholics or other substance abusers. It's just these guys are addicted to the endorphin rush from rallying.

Bummer. *hugs offered*
