"Give Her a Mask"

Agatha knows what has been
and what will be.

She has always been able
to see things, but now
how she sees them
is changing.

As a child, she noticed things
in people's speech and actions.

She told the truth as she saw it
and was punished for it,
so she learned to lie.

She told people
what they wanted to hear
and was rewarded for it,

so she did that
even though it made her
feel like a whore.

Then her sweet lies started to come true.

She learned to bend Fate,
shaping destiny to her will,
learned she could press belief
into someone's mind
like a fingerprint in wet clay.

She could see the future
and make it so,
or make it otherwise.

Agatha learned to wear a mask
because people would never
listen to her own words.

She could not be herself,
but she could be an owl,

she could become Augur.

"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth."
-- Oscar Wilde

An augur divines the future by watching birds.

An auger can be various types of drill or screw, suitable overlap for a telepath who can get things out of people's minds.

ooh, surprising

Oddly, I think this version (Augur) is more honest. I genuinely want to see MORE of her, too.
