Check out this estimate of global wind power reserves.  I am particularly intrigued that many of the best spots for wind power are clustered near areas of high population density, such as certain coastlines.  That's very convenient.

Someone should plant a wind farm in Washington DC, close to Congress. But they'd have to build the wind turbines extra strong, so the wind out of Congress doesn't blow them away.

Oh, you mean like MARTHA'S VINEYARD, home to ANDY ROONEY and other people who've objected to having their beautiful view of the ocean spoiled by windmills?

Or is it the MARTHA'S VINEYARD, where "environmental activists" tried to argue that whales would...wait...oh, wait for it, you gotta hear this to believe it...whales...the creatures that TAUGHT HUMANITY HOW TO USE SONAR...would get hit by the blades.

Why yes, Elizabeth? Yes, I have seen whales flying through MARTHA'S VINEYARD? Of course, I was also totally dosing on peyote, but I don't see how that's any different from the behavior and arguments of these "environmental activists" living in MARTHA'S VINEYARD.

Much as ionotter said, lots of wind power projects are hampered by NIMBY (Not In My BackYard) objections.

Well...

Sometimes people raise valid objections. Windmills in a major bird migration route, not such a great idea. But there are lots of places where windmills could be put, and many objections have technical solutions (different height, different rotor design, etc.). We have to get energy from somewhere. Wind and solar are a great deal cleaner and safer than fossil fuels, and they aren't going to run out. We need to find ways of making them work for us -- and a good start is to realize that there are LOTS of places they could go, both with high and with low populations.
