Female SF Writers Meme

By way of [personal profile] egret and [personal profile] oursin comes this meme:

Italicize the authors you've heard of before reading this list of authors, bold the ones you've read at least one work by, underline the ones of whose work you own at least one example of.

EDIT 6/29/11: I've added most of the proposed names, minus a couple for which I could find only fantasy credits.  Poke a bigot in the eye, buy some SF by women.

As you can see, I like science fiction in general, and women writers, and I think those things go together like chocolate and peanut butter. At that, some of my favorites are missing: Jacqueline Lichtenberg, Jean Lorrah, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Anne McCaffrey, Suzette Haden Elgin, et cetera ad astra.

The original list was 'Women SF writers who got started in the 1970s', so that explains the missing names, or most of them.
