Today's Adventures
Today we went down to Toledo for the Thrift'n'Sip Indoor Rummage Sale. We were keenly interested in the indoor rummage sale but not the alcohol consumption. So we got up early in hopes of beating the crowd, which worked out well.
The rummage sale filled a good-sized room. I think there were about 10-12 people with tables. We found two things that we've been hunting for. My partner Doug got an old-fashioned plug-in clock, which will tell us how long the power was out for whenever it goes out. I got two things that will serve as altar cloths for our larger, portable altar. One is a gray curtain with white markings that should be a good size match. The other is a white shower curtain with black markings and tassels, which is doubtless way bigger than needed but should fold down to an agreeable size. It's always great when we find something we've been hunting for.
My exciting find was a guy selling a bunch of artwork, some paintings and some that were probably posters or prints. I picked out two original unframed oil paintings, a beach scene and a "happy little trees" forest scene. :D There's also a much smaller flowerbed with a birdbath, which may be original watercolor or a print. I suspect watercolor but this was thoroughly sealed in its rustic frame so I can't check. Anyhow, it's pretty and I'm pleased with it. My partner Doug found a few other things too.
On the way home, we stopped at Naf Naf and got a hummus buster for lunch: pita bread stuffed with hummus and chicken shwarma, topped with chop salad (mine) or sumac onions (Doug). That was delicious.
We saw that Grissom Family Orchard and Farm Market was open. :D We stopped there. They're opening early in the season by trucking in stuff from growers a bit farther south. I wasn't impressed with the peaches, and they were sadly out of eggs, but I found a nice watermelon to bring home. Also they have a barbecue sauce that looks good, so we can get some later if we need it. This is one of our favorite orchards. We also like Curtis (see their 2025 calendar) which is on the way up to Champaign-Urbana.
Also worth mentioning, for supper tonight we made stir-fry with the patty pan squash from yesterday. That turned out great. I'll write up the recipe presently.
Today has been both fun and productive. :D
