>> I can see possibly liking the air-breathing bugs. I know I already adore the _water-breathing_ bugs... shrimp, crawdads, lobstah, crab.... they're not that different?! <<
I love the shellfish too.
>>The trick is getting the ichor to set up so it's not slimy... Cricket flour. The ketoheads would be ALL OVER that. Almost like almond meal.<<
Some of them are. I've tried snacks made from cricket flour. I wasn't impressed, but if hungry I could eat them.
>>As for food taboos and not... a LOT of geeks have taboos based on sentience. Goats, pigs, octipodes, higher-intellect birds (parrots and corvids)... me, I like my goat an' pig meat too much, but given I never liked the texture of tako anyway... <<
True. I like goat, pork, and calamari. I'm not inclined to eat the smarter birds.
>> Oh, that's another one. Eating raw stuff (steak tartare, oyster shooters, sushi) tends towards the geek end of the spectrum... not universally, but it's a tendency. (Salad too!) <<
I have noticed this. In some cases it's a craving for specific nutrients, in others sensation. But it can also be viviphagy. I require a certain amount of live or recently slain food; regardless of alleged nutritional content, a diet with too much overprocessed food will not sustain this body. When people complain of low energy, I encourage them to try eating things with more life energy: fermented foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, sprouts, seafood taken from a tank and cooked and plated.
I have noticed that yogurt in particular is dose-sensitive not by amount but by number of cultures. Artisan yogurt with 5 cultures is notably more helpful than commercial yogurt with only 1-2. I found one with 13 cultures once, but it tasted more like cheese than yogurt, very sheepy. If I ever find that one again I want to cook with it; I can find cheese or yogurt cheese recipes that don't use high temperatures.
