I was wondering about genetics: how much the locals already understand, to what extent having a better scientific basis and understanding would help. It's already been pointed out in more than one place I've come across that the pre-European ecology of North America was more extensively managed by the inhabitants than The Stuff They Teach You In School would have you believe.
