I know from previous experience that little bitty fish make good bait for bigger gamefish... :) <<
Options include:
* The scientists can eat it.
* They could donate it to people who need food.
* Feed it to the cetaceans, dolphins are happy to mooch fish from humans.
* Less-tasty species and guts could be used as bait, including for crabs or lobsters.
* Till it into the gardens.
Maldivian culture is very waste-not, want-not because they have to import so much.
