(Same person as above) Our cultural assumption that electricy is supreme is both annoying and boring. Some additional thoughts: I remember seeing a documentary on kinetic-powered robots. I remember there was a salt-shaker that would walk around the table. There was also Leonardo Da Vinci's famous lion. Roman aqueducts are an awesome way to set up access to water that does not require electricity. Someone has apparently invented a pneumatic bike. And a pneumatic car. Might this be a way to get around laws declaring ebikes to be motorcycles? Gaviotas apparently developed a pump that is operated by a children's seesaw. (If you can get the book (Gaviotas, by Weisman) I strongly reccommend it.) Another good book is Better Off by Eric Bende, which discusses the advantages and disadvantages of various high tech vs low tech. (Horses are better than cars by not needing gasoline and being self replicating, but they also require a lot of work and are a bad idea if you are allergic.) Now I'm wondering about the possibility of setting up an electric wheelchair that replaces electric with kinetic or pneumatic... easier to charge in a crisis.
