It's after midnight, but I haven't slept yet, so for me it's still Monday. Dreamwidth is up at the moment, but Downrightnow still reports service outage for LiveJournal, which usually parallels Dreamwidth -- although in this case, LJ came back hours before DW did. Whatever.

These are some posts from the later part of last week in case you missed them:
Poem: "L’amore è Cieco"
Poem: "The Nature of Advertising"
Poem: "Never Trusted Without a Check"
Community Building Tip: Out Front
Emotional Intimacy Question: What Matters
Poem: "Mistakes and Changes"
Cuddle Party

The fishbowl last week was okay. Not a lot of donations, and I'm seriously backlogged on writing due to repeated interruptions for other activities. "Fernweh," "As the Heavens Are Higher Than the Earth," and "On a Long Leash" have been sponsored.

So far no activity on the Rose and Bay Awards. :( Nominations are now OPEN for all categories of the Rose & Bay Awards for excellence in crowdfunding. Please nominate your favorite projects and patrons. These are the handlers for the 2019 award season:

Poetry in Microfunding:

There are two open epics. That leaves a slot open in case anybody wants to open a new one tomorrow. \o/

"Only If It Is Embraced" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Damask and has 55 new verses. Pain's Gray warns Ham about mistreating Keane.

"A Cave Swarming with Strange Forms of Life" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Iron Horses. Kenzie goes to Pretty Ears for counseling.

We got a lot of snow here. Everything is covered in white. Roads are navigable though. Seen at the birdfeeders this week: a big flock of starlings, a flock of sparrows, a flock of dark-eyed juncos, a small flock of mourning doves, several pairs of cardinals, a pair of downy woodpeckers, a red-bellied woodpecker, and a squirrel.

Downtime weirdness

O......kay. Having given up on the older site altogether, I had no idea that LJ and DW tended to be down together... given that they are now separate codebases (and have been pretty much since the beginning) and wildly disparate datacentres geographically (I think all of DW's are in the US, where all of LJ's are .RU...), the only thing I can think of is that DW use the same content distribution network?

It's some really wild esoterica about computing at scale that I'm just getting my head around lately... a very advanced form of the kind of magick I've been wielding since, oh, 1990 CE?

Oh, jeeze, now I have Freddie the Fae's voice echoing in my brain:

o/~ It's a kind of magic.. o/~

:shakes head in wonder: The dude was PFM. And the Kurgan was right. It's better to burn out, than to fade away. Of all my core philosophies, THAT is the one that has CHANGED in the last 30 years...

That one, and how you treat people who have been assholes to you. You taught me a thing or two about that.

There's been an issue with Cloudflare. Things got switched around and we're still sort of waiting to see how and/if it's going to get fixed so we can get swapped back from what we swapped to.

We don't use the same servers or anything, but yes on same sort of proxy DDoS protection thingie that if it goes down can bone us. Along with a lot of other sites.
(They were a lot faster to get back up because they've got more people who can do that.)
