... this was inspired partly by my college experiences, and I have cleaned up after a professor doing something even dumber. It's not just the kids.

*sigh* Hydrogen and stupidity.

In theory, yes. In practice, not without winning a case in court. You get only the "rights" you can defend with force.

Of course, that's the law itself. A cop who was already predisposed to be lenient might well have accepted that argument -- if it was a sincerely held belief. For a class? Iffy. For a class + "How can I make up for the mistake?" ... probably.

It'll be interesting to see how they work out their differences, because those two are stuck with each other for the foreseeable future.
