Wowsers... Imagine if one of those giant tailed planets has a smaller habitable one, or 'super-moon' orbiting it... with this HUGE banner flaring across the sky...
Even more awesome. I think a supermoon is quite plausible, as Jovian planets often have big moons that might sustain life. If the moon's orbit takes it through that tail, the effects on the biosphere could be fascinating. It might be ruinous to life -- or like plate tectonics, a helpful variation.
