Hard Things

Life is full of things which are hard or tedious or otherwise unpleasant that need doing anyhow. They help make the world go 'round, they improve skills, and they boost your sense of self-respect. But doing them still kinda sucks. It's all the more difficult to do those things when nobody appreciates it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our accomplishments and pat each other on the back.

What are some of the hard things you've done recently? What are some hard things you haven't gotten to yet, but need to do?

Waiting on test results for Kitsune... while not very well myself. Fretting about the possibility of her lump being cancer added a theme to my fever dreams. I can cope if I know what's what.. it's the not knowing that's hard.

Realising that 'retirement age' [65] is only fifteen years away...and planning for it. [dammit, I still feel 21!]

and now I know... and it sucks.

But at least we bought her some more time.

Heh, I have an entire altar to Bast... although I'm out of catnip incense at the moment.

*Slowly creeps in, hops over and cuddles you.* Much hope that Kitsune's lump isn't cancerous. :(

I scraped up the money for the house taxes. I should get a fucking medal for being able to pay them; they went up nearly a thousand dollars. Goddamned fucking mill rates.

Setting a date to leave my current job because of ongoing issues that just refuse to resolve.

Post my CV and spec letter to organisations that specialise in mental health support and recovery.

It does but I've got to the point where I need to walk away to protect myself.

I've been doing that and have also got an appointment with a careers adviser to go over all of the available options. In Scotland several mental health services specify person with lived experience for their peer support and recovery support positions. I have PTSD and anxiety that I can draw from when I complete the personal statement section on application forms.

Digging into last year's anger to try and learn to deal with any future recurrences...

I've gotten to a place where I'm settled as Buddha on the Mountain. Buddha in the *village*, however, is going to take a lot more work. But it's where I'm Called to be.

Also digging out of the depression that's been keeping me from Getting Stuff Done... thanks in part to an old friend with whom I've reconnected.

Moved internationally to be with my long-distance partner of five years.

We've been together in person for a combined total of two months now. It's going well.

Iris borers and Popillia japonica. (Funny that I don't see the Japanese beetles on the iris, since they reputedly came in on rhizome imports.)

Well, I have sent a bunch of both to their next spot on the wheel. I had best get at them again since the beetles will be raving in the roses again by now.

We went on vacation three weeks ago. Since we've come back, work's been ridiculously slow. To the tune of only having had one article to write in the last three weeks. I know we should be grateful for the time off, but holy crap do we ever need the money.

I think I have used up my Coherent for now. Instead you all can have a song about loving unapologetically and protecting life.

YouTube video of Estelle singing Stronger Than You:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPwdHxNhqEQ

Lyrics:
http://steven-universe.wikia.com/wiki/Stronger_Than_You

A brief content note. PS: One line is relationship-centric in a way that reads like a swipe at people who aren't in a relationship. I think the overall message of the song is still good, and that the source show as a whole promotes 'whatever works for you' and not one model for relationships. *Please* give the song a try unless you have reason to think it will be a problem for you.

Several hours on the phone trying to get information on how much the co-pays on Colleen's Humira are going to be. It used to be $5, and would have been $30 without the assistance from the drug manufacturer that stops when you switch to medicare. My last co-pay was well over $1400.

I do not envy you the Columbia gorge. The City of Roses has FAR worse weather than Emerald Greenia... because of that damned river...
