Hard Things

Life is full of things which are hard or tedious or otherwise unpleasant that need doing anyhow. They help make the world go 'round, they improve skills, and they boost your sense of self-respect. But doing them still kinda sucks. It's all the more difficult to do those things when nobody appreciates it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our accomplishments and pat each other on the back.

What are some of the hard things you've done recently? What are some hard things you haven't gotten to yet, but need to do?

Hardest thing I did today was get up. Slept very badly last night, was so tired this morning, that I had to force myself up.

Sometimes that can be the toughest part of the day right there.

Well done.

I hope you get more rest next time.

Yay for Defying Gravity!

("Defying Gravity" is a song from The Wiz. It's about telling the world to Stick It, you're doing it your way.)

Mornings are unacceptable & nobody should be forced to face them. Since you had to anyway, well done!

Getting moving is tough for me, too, lately. So many little things wrong, and it gets overwhelming...

Bards and friends and `ohana help the mood, but actually getting out of this chair.... yeah.

I have 3 online classes. 3!

I'm anxious as fuck for no discernable reason (OK so the parents are coming in, so that's one reason but) evn though I'm over the whole hurt/betrayal things that happened over this past weekend.

I feel like I can't stay awake for more than a few hours before I fall asleep again and I need to do so damn much before they get here.

Despite the fact I'm trying to pick up my spirituality again, I still feel like my life is falling apart around me, especially now wid Drumphs access cuts-I just wanna get through school without having to lose my home because I have to pay utilities at full price on 1168 a month that's barely covering shit because debt.

I just...want to live. To get out, to be among people and to get our magic shit off the freaking forest-floor (Elven term there) and keep it there. *sighs*

I finished a story for Every Woman 2017, I rolled up bandages for four hours, I paid three bills today (electric, water, and pharmacy), and I ate dinner. And now I'm going to do the dishes and go to bed.

Two assignments due tomorrow, one paper and one study guide, both still unfinished. There's a midterm for the same class, which no one's studied for - the last few days (week?) have been spent working on those assignments instead. :/ Said class is also a morning class, so I can't pull the trick of waking up early to finish it.

Then Saturday is a class that... certainly isn't the worst communications class we've experienced, but is one of the least-engaging courses we've had to date, with a professor who's making her 101-level students present on chapters she doesn't teach herself... without correcting them when they're wrong. 0_o Good thing we already know the material. But that's going to be Keith's problem to deal with.

Oh, I really would NOT want to be a fly on that wall when a 101 student makes a whopping error that the teacher lets slide! For lots of mental fun, picture a fly with a projecting, almost booming tenor shouting "WRONG!" in the style of BBC's Sherlock.

Try using a timer to keep yourself to thirty minutes or less between breaks. It does make marathoning through an assignment MUCH easier. Also, drink plenty of water.

Spent at least 8 hours in four sessions (so far) on chat with AT&T tech support trying to get a feature enabled on a cell phone that's supposed to have it. Actually, several phones -- the problem is the way the line is provisioned. Still not solved.

Spent rather a lot of time on the phone to various companies. That's even less fun.

Bad news from a friend, and I feel as if I borked up the whole 'supportive person' role.

I can't toss around platitudes like 'it will be okay,' without /believing/ them, and, well, I'm not willing to make bets about sunrise more than four minutes /ahead/ of sunrise.

By the end of our conversation, I was literally swaying with exhaustion, and I'm still not sure if anything I said helped.

UUUUGH

car decided to fritz yesterday...

I was stretching the budget to pay off the loan and debt I owe on it already, and depending on what's wrong, might have to buy ANOTHER CAR...last car died in October...I am not happy.

But hey, I'm not dead, it decided to fritz and stall while in operation right after I turned off a major road (going 60) onto a side road where the speed limit's only 30...so that could have been awful.

Taking my cat Kitsune to the vets today. I'm dreading that they'll confirm what I think the large lump in her armpit is.

Also not looking forward to the mechanics of getting her there. She's a fey little one with 20kg of wildcat strength in her 2 kilo body, and she does not like being handled and hates the cat carrier with the burning passion of 10,000 suns.

There will be blood. Probably mine.

How'd it go?

Does someone need to donate a pint of blood to replace what you lost, or was it a 'good' trip to the vet?

Waited three weeks to hear about the latest round of the Hard Thing. Decided I was probably just not going to hear, only to wake up from a nap to an email from the gatekeeper.

The Hard Thing has officially been submitted for consideration, and I get to wait another three weeks. (I thought that's what the LAST three weeks was for?!)

Face, meet floor. *kersplat*

Oh! And for bonus hard, succeeding at the Hard Thing means making a friend who I truly love and cherish unhappy. Failing at the Hard Thing means, oh well, reassess whether I should try again(this is try #4 that made it off the ground, and try 30+ if I count all of them.)

But giving up on the Hard Thing, while it might make avert others' pain, has a track record of making me miserable. Why are SITUATIONS.

Edit: Thanks for the Hard Thing posts. It helps to whine about this, some.
