That's basically canon in Islamic tradition. Exceptional events dispensed through Divine guidance are given to certain prophets and other holy people, and they have a couple of different words. I'm not sure if what happened with Buraq is an exact match, but I did base it on descriptions of ecstatic experiences from that branch of culture and religion.
