Good news includes all the things which make us happy or otherwise feel good. It can be personal or public. We never know when something wonderful will happen, and when it does, most people want to share it with someone. It's disappointing when nobody is there to appreciate it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our joys and pat each other on the back.

What good news have you had recently? Are you anticipating any more?

Well, a small bit of good news. All the paperwork and so on is finally complete regarding buying the house. It's only taken a year... but, it's all done. the place is now ours and everyone relevant has been informed.

Tiny-ist yay ever from me too... I can see why people say buying a home is one of the most stressful, long-winded things you can do... and we're not even moving since we bought the home we were renting.

But it's over, finally.

BTDT, still paying the house payment.

But owning is better than renting, as if you did it right your mortgage payment doesn't go up every year.

Yup, 15 year mortgage, first ten fixed rate. And the payments are a LOT less than our monthly rent. [which is why we did it.] Plan is to pay it off early, before the variable rate kicks in.

I have a line on a new place, for semi-permanents... it's a block and a half from the old place, closer to shops etc, the rent will be (just) under budget, and the building is family run. Wish me awesome!

Heh! Funny, we're very different in some ways, but quite the same in others... kinda like Brits and Yanks (which we are)...

I'm actually getting out of the house more often and I made Shepherd's Pie today for the first time. Of special note is the fact that this also involved me having to make mashed potatoes on my own for the first time. Thankfully due to observing my mother and helping her in the kitchen, I already had the basics down.

I contemplated going that route, but figured I should also use the opportunity to make mashed potatoes from scratch. I threw in a bit of garlic powder and dried parsley into it as well.

We've received two offers on our house, one for $25K over the asking price.

I'm retiring at the end of the month.

Both are bittersweet, but...

I'm sorry you have to give up Rainbow's End, but very glad that selling it is working out so well.

The sad news which precipitates the good: My father-in-law left this earth the beginning of March. My in-laws have been sponsoring our son's college education. My mother-in-law is now in a skilled-care facility, with my brother-in-law serving as executor for the estate and trustee for his mom. There are a total of 4 siblings, of whom my partner is the eldest.

The other three put their heads together and agreed that they would continue to use their parents' resources to pay for our son's college education. That is an enormous relief. I hadn't expected it, and I'm tremendously grateful.
