... Cassandra figured this out about a minute after getting on it. At first, she can barely handle the bike, let alone a trailer full of cargo. It's a great bike, but it's way heavier than she's used to, and she hasn't been in the best shape due to chronic illness. Give her a month or two and she'll be comfortable with the new bike, and by three she'll be able to handle it loaded without strain. She's young and strong; by the end of the summer she'll be hauling respectable loads. A trailer will probably become useful next spring or so.

Agreed. But I think Aidan took Cassandra's mediocre physical condition into consideration when picking out a more advanced version of something she was already using on her own. The bike is both a practical tool and a serious motivation to build up her fitness.
