It's the same concept as excessive force, but based on location rather than amount. Stan hit an extremely vulnerable area. He just didn't realize he was doing that, or how very dangerous it was.

Excessive force is about the amount. Police brutality, or superhero brutality, is about deliberation. This meets the former but not the latter. We don't really have a good variety of terms for these topics, to bring out the fine distinctions; that's a problem.
The reason Stan will want to apologize for his part of this incident is because, once he realizes what he did wrong and how far it was from what he meant to do, he will feel bad about having violated his own ethics. It's not something he'd do on purpose. But that doesn't make Bo Ray any less hurt.
