The Winterfaire spreads out as far as the eye can see. Some booths show streamers of red and green, while others sport blue and silver. All of them offer treasure after shining treasure. Music fills the air with lyrics of Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, and Yule. From the Wordsmith's Forge comes the bright chiming of words being hammered into literature. Delicious scents of hot chocolate, spiced cider, peppermint, baking cookies, and gingerbread tantalize the appetite. Smiling, laughing shoppers amble from booth to booth with lists in hand. Vendors grin back, calling out, "Come try, come buy...!"

I know a lot of artists, writers, musicians, crafters, and other talented folks who make some of their living from their creative endeavors. I don't always have the money to support them as much as I'd like, but what I can do is set up a virtual faire where vendors can offer their wares to an audience that likes crafts, literature, and small businesses. For those of you doing your holiday shopping, here's an opportunity to buy something made with love, something unusual or unique, in a way that helps make it possible for creative people to go on creating wonders. And there will be no traffic jams, stampedes, or gunfights at the Winterfaire!  Enjoy the seasonal offerings on Dreamwidth or on LiveJournal.

Vendors: If you have goods or services suitable for holiday gifts, please put up a booth by replying with a description of what you sell, an estimate of your price range if possible, and some kind of contact information so shoppers can reach you.  If you have a website (Etsy, DeviantArt, personal, whatever) showcasing your work in more detail, include the link(s).  If you have holiday freebies, such as downloadable greeting card imagery, you're welcome to promote those too. For ease of identification, I recommend titling your reply starting with "BOOTH:" followed by the name of your business or type of goodies.

Shoppers: If you're looking for something specific and it's not posted yet, feel free to ask. Someone else may know where to find it! "SHOPPING FOR:" and the topic would be a good title.

Everyone: You may help promote the Winterfaire by linking to this post from your own blog or site. If you have a similar holiday-networking post, you may link to it in a comment on this post.

Participation Perk: I'm offering poetry for participation, beginning with verses of "No One to Greet the Season" (72 verses) from the series Frankenstein's Family.  Because, you see, all of these activities will unlock a verse each time someone does them:
* link to this Winterfaire page to boost the signal
* comment posting a Booth of your wares/services in the Winterfaire
* buy something from a vendor listed in the Winterfaire
* host a similar holiday market in your own blog or other venue
LiveJournal will notify me of comments to the Winterfaire post and links to it elsewhere on LJ; for everything else, you need to TELL ME in order to get credit for it.

A single booth decorated in lavender, white, and forest green, with two signs, one for each business conducted by the booth's host. From the back of the booth you can hear the click of beads and the clack of keys.

On the left side of the booth, under the sign "Conall Publications", sits stacks of two books: A Dinner of Herbs: Tales from Scarborough Fair by Elizabeth Conall and Anne B. Walsh (link goes to Smashwords for the $2.99 ebook, or you can get a paperback copy signed by both authors for $7.00 + shipping; I have nine copies available, I'm not sure how many Anne has) and Lavender Blue and other poems by Elizabeth Conall (not yet available, but watch this space, and I'm happy to take preorders for signed copies at $7.00 + shipping). Flip through Lavender Blue (not all of Lavender Blue has been published on [personal profile] alexconall and not all of what's been published on [personal profile] alexconall is in Lavender Blue, but there is heavy overlap), or (at Smashwords) the first section of A Dinner of Herbs.

Also available from Conall Publications: commissioned stories: you provide a prompt and semi-professional per-word pay up front, I write a story to those parameters and publish it online. Leave a comment at that post or email me at elizabethconall at gmail to discuss.

On the right side of the booth, under the sign "Sunbow Gems", are arrayed a selection of earrings and necklaces, some Supernatural-themed, many queer-themed, and some winter- or Christmas-themed.

Also available from Sunbow Gems: custom jewelry: email me at elliemurasaki at gmail and we'll discuss.

Both sides of the booth take Paypal; there is a button on my Dreamwidth profile.

Please try some of our free story samples!

Frances J.'s booth is small but well decorated with lots of glitter and it smells like cake and cookies. Inside, she is bustling around baking stories.

"いらしゃいませー!" she chirps, holding a piping hot pan of flash fiction in her hands. "Welcome to my shop! It's nice to meet you! My name is Frances J., but you can call me Meep."

"This is my first Winterfaire," she continues as she sets down the stories to cool, switching out the pan with another tray of short fiction ready to be frosted. "I'm so excited to sell my stories and see what else is for sale once everyone gets set up."

She directs your attention to a handwritten menu board.

MENU

no bake drabble bites scrumptious mini morsels of stories (between 100-250 words)
short story shortcakes a single serving of fluffy fiction (between 500-750 words)
a much longer layer cake more than enough sweet storytelling to satisfy you (starting at 1000+ words) only available by special request

Take home a tasty set to save for later! We offer no bake drabble bites and short story shortcakes for any occasion in sets of six or twelve connected stories.
TOPPINGS

rainbow sprinkles delectable queer stories cover a range of identities and relationships, to taste
cake we heard you like cake, so we put cake on your cake: stories with nonsexual intimacy
galentine's day sweethearts wait, wrong holiday! it's always a good time to write woman-centered stories
lembas bread a little fantasy or a lot? add some magic to your order!

Don't see something you like? Talk to Frances about a custom dessert order.

"I specialize in sweet stories," she says, "especially during the holiday season! I'd love to write something cheerful to warm you right up."

Frances has kept busy while you've been reading the menu, and she's put the icing on the cake of many stories from the pan. She holds the finished products up shyly: some are science fiction or fantasy, some are historical or contemporary fiction, most are woman-centric stories and all of them are very sweet.

"Can I tempt you with something?" she asks, smiling. "I've saved some plain stories to bake just for you! What are your favorite flavors?"

She takes notes on the pad hidden in her pink apron. "Don't worry about paying me, dear! I'll accept tips and donations this year. What I'd really love to do is swap my services for yours!"

I had been thinking tips/donations to me, but you know what? I like the idea of donations to charity better. 'Tis the season, and all that. If you'd like something from me, please PM me here and we'll work out the details.

I'd appreciate donations to Amnesty International or the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

One booth, despite the name it sports, is not bedecked in wedges of cheese. It's mainly festooned with blue and silver streamers and stars, though there are a few maple leaves and snowflakes among the decorations as well. It can be assumed it was the booth's owner who left a set of cross-country skis and poles leaning against one exterior wall. From inside comes the clattering of keys, and beneath the sign naming the booth itself hangs a second board:

ficlets Made To Order
You choose the universe and the theme, specify any do-not-want-type limits, and chanter (the long-haired woman in the fuzzy sweater) will provide a ficlet in return. Semi-professional rates apply.
To note: This vendor is an amateur Wisconsin author as well as a science fiction scribbler. Local-themed requests accepted. contents may tend toward lyrical prose; if allergic, please say so.

there are a handful of pieces already on display, as well as one covered project clearly intended for sale as a finished article.

BOOTH: A Tale to Remember (Anne B. Walsh)

Date: 2013-12-02 04:18 am (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
(Apologies for the anonymous post but apparently I am not intelligent enough at 11 PM to figure out OpenID!)

The booth is small, cozy even, with red walls and a broad counter, spread with a tempting array of colorful books. Each end of the counter has its catly guard, one black and white with a pirate patch, one brown tabby and white with a mask and mantle. Their purring fills the air and vibrates the sign overhead, which reads:

Welcome to A Tale To Remember, the booth of Anne B. Walsh!
Writer of stories to lift the heart and intrigue the mind
All tales are available in e-book format or print, just as you like
For e-books, check out Smashwords (https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/AnneBWalsh);
For print, see my shop on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/AnneBWalsh)!

Novels include:
Historical fantasy A Widow in Waiting (The Chronicles of Glenscar, Volume I)
Family-focused fantasy Homecoming (The Tales of Anosir, Volume I)
Soft science fiction Killdeer (hot off the presses! Just released 11/29!)

Short story collections include:
Cat Tales (fiction featuring fantastical felines)
A Dinner of Herbs (also sold at Conall Publications, and yes, I'm that Anne: I believe I have four copies remaining)
Sing We Now of Christmas (holiday-themed fiction from 2012)
In the Bleak Midwinter (ditto for 2013)
Christmastime Is Here 2013 (unitary edition of the two holiday books above, plus a bonus, reader-inspired story; only available through Etsy)

Though I have not previously written custom work, I could surely be tempted. Contact me at annebwalsh at gmail dot com and we shall discuss it.

Don't forget to pet Poppy and Sesame before you go, and learn more about me at my website, annebwalsh.com, or my Facebook home, facebook.com/annebwalsh.page!

Thanks for doing this! I'm going to be looking back here for my own shopping. :)

I make and sell jewelry. Mostly silver, but there's some gold. My best-selling items are original Celtic-inspired pendants in bronze and silver, with wolves, ravens, triple bears, oaks, dragons (3 kinds on 1 pendant!) and St. Brigid's crosses.

At this point it would be tricky to do custom work in time for Christmas, but I can get the pendants and other finished stuff off in a few days.

BOOTH: K. A. Webb Writing

Date: 2013-11-29 10:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] moonwolf1988.livejournal.com
Welcome, one and all, those who've been before and those who're new, to the many worlds of K. A. Webb. (If you've been before you may know me as K. A. Jones - my name has been changed to reflect who I am and to remember the man who raised me.) All of my work can be found here.

This year I'm giving away free holiday fiction, to be sent on either Christmas Day or Boxing Day, depending on how much time I have then. Each story will be at least 1000 words long and you can ask for anything you want. If you want to keep your email address a secret (or ask for me to send a story as a gift) feel free to PM me or send me an email at k_a_webb[at]live[dot]co[dot]uk.

Stating on the 1st of December I'll be posting this year's advent story which will be set in the Donor House collection. It's a little different as I'm going to be posting 2000 words a day and I will extend the story if I get enough interest (which includes comments, clicking the write more button at my website, or linking to it).

Everything that is normally available can be purchased as a gift for someone else or for yourself. Any adoption or rental that is purchased thanks to this booth will be half price - just send me an email in advance so I know this is where you've come from. If you purchase multiple adoptions or rentals (one for a friend and one for yourself) then I'll throw in a little surprise extra - so it will be different for everyone.

For more immediate gratification, I've got a CD, "Legends and Literature", which contains songs about characters from myth, fiction, [and occasionally real life] from Gilgamesh to Harry Potter. Nothing fancy in the arrangements, just me and my guitar.
