My practice has been
1. Start a post on LJ. No text necessary.
2. Upload the pictures to it.
3. Save the post.
4. Open the post to read or edit.
5. Copy the LJ URLs of the pictures.
6. Write my actual post on Dreamwidth, inserting the pix.
7. Save on DW, with crosspost to LJ (which is my DW default).
8. Switch back to LJ and delete the original draft.

Rather tedious, but it works. Then there are Google Photos and Photobucket, though I've heard that the latter is charging for posting from it; maybe that's just for mass stuff by commercial accounts, I don't know. But I had reasons to mentally nickname them Boat-o'-FuckIt.

We would have commented over there, but the recaptia crap doesn't allow us to do that because no audio alternative. :(

Me too. I keep it around for things like friends who don't have LJ's, some of your poems and because our account is permanent and we're loathed to part with it for that reason. Not to mention we want to archive our entries to our DW because some of our first system memories were made over there, and if we lost those we'd be sad people.

LJ is owned by Putin's cronies, and part of the Kleptocracy. I guess it's safe from being disappeared, unlike some of the people who post on it.

I hope it waits a bit longer. Last time I tried exporting to DW it didn't work, so I need to try again. Most of my life is over there (Even before we were multiple and stuff) that was literally our first journal-home. It's sad to see it go to hell in a massive handcart. :(

I understand why DW doesn't do permanent accounts, but I sort of wish they did; and back when they were seeling seed accounts I wish Id've had the money to buy one. We're lazy payers; if there's not an automatic pay option, we're less likely to get something beause we tend to forget when its due unless reminded.

Did you all know you can set up notifications in google calendar to send an email every X number of days/weeks/months etc apart... thus using it as a reminder of reoccurring payments. I think paypal also allow account holders to do standing orders, i.e automatic payments at specific intervals.

I'd hazard a guess you probably aren't the only ones with that problem, [me included] and some of our fellow sufferers work for the organisations in question, so they built tools to help.

We knew about the phone thing-but we didn't know it could be used for that. Interesting.

DW doesn't use Paypal, unfortunately (Stupid rules) so we didn't know about their notifications because we don't use it much. We do have an apple musi subscription run by iTunes that pulls money out every month from there, but that's about the only auto payment we have since we still have our payee and she does most of the bill paying.

This is still good information, thank you.

I need to try the importer again. Last time it failed out. I hope it doesn't the next time I try.

We're sad that LJ's going to pot; that was literally the first regular online journal we started keeping, and most of our life is over there. We bought the permanent account when it was in its hayday and damn near perfect with accessibility. It's fallen off a helluva lot since then.

PS: Back when the old guard were a damn bigger presence there than they are now...which might be changing; I seem to be sencing Mum and Dah a lot more lately which is good; I've missed them in the back of the shared spaces. :)
