Jumble Munch is a popular snack in Terramagne-America, mentioned in several poems from Polychrome Heroics. It's a mix of different ingredients, similar to trail mix or party mix, in a large array of sweet and savory flavors. It comes in small or large bags.

Some friends asked me about making a trail mix that doesn't include things they can't eat.

First, make a list of things that you like and can eat, which are suitable for trail mix.

Here are some things commonly in trail mix:

http://www.onegreenplanet.org/vegan-food/mix-n-match-ingredients-to-make-healthy-trail-mix/

http://scoutingwire.org/35-trail-mix-ingredients-ranked-best-worst/

This one lists cereal, which most don't. I've always enjoyed cereal in trail mix. Corn pops, cheerios, chex, and honey smacks are favorites. I usually avoid the artificial colors, but I like ones that are lightly sweetened. Too sweet is not so good. Think about dry cereals you two enjoy and what you might like to include. These days there are lots of granola and other health food cereals to consider. You have to read the labels to see what's really healthy, because most cereals try to fool people into thinking they're better than they really are; but some good ones exist. Pick the right one, and cereal can be a perfect cheap-and-healthy main ingredient.

https://www.cancer.org/healthy/eat-healthy-get-active/eat-healthy/find-healthy-recipes/sweet-treats/make-your-own-cereal-and-on-the-trail-mix.html

Do you want a theme? Trail mixes often have a focus such as nutty, sweet, salty, salty-and-sweet, fruity, healthy, chocolatey, etc. This is an easy way to customize blends with similar base ingredients.

Here are some popular themes:

http://www.superhealthykids.com/ultimate-trail-mix-recipe-guide/

This company lets you compose your own trail mix, and it's a source I use for many of the Jumble Munch ingredients:

https://nuts.com/custom/mixes/

Will you be sweating when you eat this stuff? If so, include a salty ingredient such as mini pretzels or sprinkle in a pinch of sea salt. If not, avoid salty ingredients. Most people already get too much salt from processed foods.

When it comes to proportions, there are two main considerations: cost and nutrition. To avoid breaking the budget, affordable ingredients should form the bulk of your mix. To avoid wrecking your health, wholesome items should also dominate the mix. Because crap tends to be cheap and wholesome things expensive, you may need to balance and have the three main ingredients be sort of healthy and cheap, affordable and decently healthy, and sort of affordable and healthy.

As an adjunct to nutrition, remember that trail mix is for energy which you need right now. That means it should lean toward carbohydrates, with a little fat and protein for staying power.

Then add in smaller amounts of fun things that are less healthy or more expensive.

Here are some thoughts on proportions:

http://www.thehealthymaven.com/2015/08/how-to-build-a-healthy-trail-mix.html

I hope this helps.

any suggestions about replacing/removing sunflower seeds in the mixes that have them?

I developed an unfortunate allergy to them in my later 20s, and it's not gotten any better.

It gets annoying at times, especially with bread and related products. I remember the time I bought a loaf of raisin bread, took *one* bite of the toast and felt the warning tingle in my mouth. Wound up giving the loaf to a housemate and reading labels a *lot* more carefully after that.

Luckily sunflower *oil* is not a problem or I'd *really* be limited.

LOL at the Black Magic; there's a local coffee roaster here who sells a coffee by that name, and it's *good!* Especially iced down with Italian sweet cream.

...

Jay and I are druling now. :) Yum!

Oh yum.

I bet Madhukar likes the Indulgent Orchard and Yo-Yo Tricks flavors; he has something of a sweet tooth, and likes fruity things.

Mean & Green and China Garden sound right up my alley. Drool.

Thanks for the links! These appear entirely replicable.

I keep wanting to come up with my own recipe for a trail-mix style snack. Every commercial brand contains at least one thing that I'd be happier without, or that either Russ or I can't/shouldn't eat. (Unfortunately, this also applies to your recipes here.) I know I'd start with raisins (regular and golden) and go on from there with other dried fruits and possibly peanuts or pecans, but I don't have a real framework yet.

Oh yum! China Garden, Good Curry, Panda Dance and Black Magic all sound marvelous to this gal.

Any suggestions for fruit(s) to swap for dried apricots? No allergy issues, but IMO dried apricots are groooooss, and that Cinnamonium sounds otherwise delightful.
