Hard Things

Life is full of things which are hard or tedious or otherwise unpleasant that need doing anyhow. They help make the world go 'round, they improve skills, and they boost your sense of self-respect. But doing them still kinda sucks. It's all the more difficult to do those things when nobody appreciates it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our accomplishments and pat each other on the back.

What are some of the hard things you've done recently? What are some hard things you haven't gotten to yet, but need to do?

Dental stuff

I scheduled my wisdom teeth to be removed. From what everyone I know told me (before I went in to get them checked!) this will be the most painful experience of my life up to this point. So that's happening next week. All four. Plus painkillers to mess with my head afterwards in addition to the pain! And antibiotics which I usually get stomach problems from. Assuming I don't have an allergic reaction this time. I hate things that mess with my head. And I won't even be in the same city as my twin or mom and...yeah. Sorry. Freaking out a bit. Not sure if my body wants to panic or cry.

Oh no! I'm sorry.

We had our wisdom teeth removed, and surprisingly, we didn't find it all that painful. But we had them removed in two batches because ours grew in weird.

Good luck and much warm, soft food for you.

Don't panic. The thing is, you only ever hear the horror stories, because the, "Yeah, I had my wisdom teeth removed and it went fine," stories just don't make very interesting storytime.

SO: I had my wisdom teeth removed an d it went fine. +g+ Mine were actually growing in horizontally, pushing against the neighboring teeth, so I had all four removed in one go. One of them was so skewed that they had to saw it into 7 bits to get it out. And still--there really wasn't all that much pain.

Except on they day of the procedure itself, all I had to take was (a very high dose of, admittedly) ibuprofen, which doesn't make me at all loopy. Voilá--no pain.

The most annoying thing is that you can't eat any real food for a few days after. Make sure to stock up on ice cream, soup, mashed potatoes, and other goopy things. Oh, and don't use straws for a few days!

Best of luck, and good vibes. :)

I'm so sorry. I hope that you recover quickly and well, and that your dentist is careful.

The best to you; you'll need to cover the pillowslip with a towel in case of bloody drool because I remember being super upset seeing all that on the linen upon waking up. Hey, take a few days off and pamper yourself! I hope all the meds do what they are made to do and at least a cheerful phone call comes from the twin or mom! :)

I had all four of mine removed in a single session, including a surgical extraction of the one that hadn't erupted yet. It was my first time ever on Vicodin, and I had my share of Stupid Painkiller Tricks. ("I don't want it to wear off while I'm cooking this important dinner, so I'll just take two now!" Cue four hours of me being completely fascinated by my husband playing video games on our Commodore 64 - yes, this was a while ago.) Apart from that, the entire process was trouble-free.

All my best wishes for a complication-free procedure and recovery for you.

I had all four out at once, and a fifth tooth that grew in...weird. They were hoping to basically let the wisdom tooth on that side replace the weird tooth. That...didn't work, so all five came out.

Honestly, the worst part of the procedure as I recall that I metabolize meds in weird and bizarre ways. (I continue to be the only person any of my doctors have ever known to get lithium poisoning the *moment* it got to the most minor therapeutic dosage in my system.) So...they ended up having to shove laughing gas at me, and hope to gods I stayed mostly asleep for the procedure. Which mostly worked.

That said, I got home, I slept, I took one painkiller and the preventative round of antibiotics (and because my dad's worked in a pharmacy since '96, we had the usual "only use this antibiotic" discussion before surgery), and never even chipmunked. The other 9 vicodin from the batch of ten stayed in my father's kitchen cupboard. Surgery was in...'06, I think, when I was seventeen. I distinctly remember there still being a bottle in the cupboard while I was packing my tea supplies to move states in '12.

I have migraines and periods that hurt more than that particular procedure did.

I will note that the thing that was, for my dentist, an absolute definite was that the antibiotics were started before the surgery, not right after. (This was different than my sister's dentist's tactic. I liked my dentist's results better.)

I had all four out and I was also fine after the day of the surgery. It was a hassle and it hurt, but it was not agonizing or debilitating.

Do you grind your teeth? I do and I'd be fine durring the day but would wake up in the middle of the night in pain and would be in pain till noon. In retrospect I should have used a bite guard. Otherwise mine really wasn't to bad. My face never got swollen or anything.

We've been working every day this week, on top of bad bad anxiety, trying to figure out wedding stuff, where we're going to move to, etc, and having our mom say a few really hurtful things on top of it.

But tomorrow's the end of the work week huzzah.

Also, long-distance relationship. We're nearing the end of our visit with our fiancee and it sucks because she lives across the country so I'm not sure when we'll be together next.

Semester starting. First week is always crazy. Student numbers completely unlike what was predicted based on last semester. Frantically rearranging my teaching schedule so people can get the places they need. On top of all that, had to fail a student who was on their last attempt, meaning they're out now. I realize it wasn't my fault--I did everything I could to help them prepare, and the exam wasn't even close to passing--but I still feel like I failed them.

I have a list of things that need sorting out on the white-board, including council tax and water rates. I loath phoning bureaucracies, not to mention kinda having an attack of; "oh my GAWD! why am I doing this?! I'm not adult enough for this!"... which at 50 sounds silly, but inside I'm 21 and holding!

I'm going to have to do it though, before the dry-erase ink leaves a permanent ghost of itself.

Wish me luck. I've tried to get up early enough to restart my spiritual path...

But today is my first day of internship, and while that isn't a hard thing in and of itself-this is going to be our first really long day, (12-6, and that doesn't include bus time) and I'm afraid we're going to be so tired by the time we get home tht the small piles of laundry are going to feel like these huge mountains-and I have no more days left before the bio-mother gets here, and no vacuuming. :/

...

And nervous as hell about the internship right now because I just...2 clients and very little practice last quarter. Just...gaaah.

Six people live under my roof and it needed replacing after 32 years. Shakes aren't done anymore, so an expensive shingled roof begun Mar. 2nd now looks gorgeous and functioned perfectly in the recent downpour, thank you. This took 2 years to fund, 10 extra days to complete despite Project Manager's assurances 'done in 3 days, ma'am!!' in the course of which I kept a log of all conversations, texts and phone calls. This week City Inspector cleared the project, yay.

I hope whatever difficult project you have, Elizabeth, goes smoothly. :)

I STILL don't have a job...

I did my taxes, I filed my taxes, I talked with the bank...

I have to have a long, possibly angering, definitely emotional, likely terrifying conversation tomorrow.... and there will be more than one of them. So that's going to be fun. Not.

I have to make a decision regarding a long term place of community and my part in it and whether or not I can actually STAY in said community...I am dreading the conversations that must take place either way...

I am about this close >><< to cutting and damn the consequences, damn the looming 6 year anniversary in July, damn it all...

I am so tired.
