Today I saw a house finch at the fly-through feeder. :D They're pretty little things, like a sparrow with a reddish head and chest. Some years we have a whole flock, other times none for a while.

Walking outside, I saw that some of the new blue grape hyacinths beside the patio are budding. They're a bit later than the volunteers already there.

Thanks to the various folks who sang the praises of toad lilies, I picked up the other two colors available. I think they're Taipei Silk and Trycyrtis formosanna.

House finchies! :D I love those little birds. We had as many as three or even, I believe, four nests at one time in the upper windows of our house growing up. You can imagine the delight of the two little girls sharing a bedroom when, on spring and summer mornings, they'd awaken to the sound of cheep cheep cheep! tiny finch hatchlings yelling for breakfast from the windowsills at the heads of both their beds. And from their youngest sister's window. And the bathroom window! <3

I admit, I've been quietly cheering on your mourning doves. :) We used to get those nesting over our front door, though they'd alternate with robins. We got finches or robins over our side door too, which made exiting a little hairy as that was our primary door - *opens door, bird flies off, sorry, finchy!*

I love grape hyacinths, we get them growing wild where I live-them and sword ferns being the only things our yard doesn't drown.

I've got toad lilies much like the second link. Lots of fun in the fall.
